The Bankey Bihari Corridor project was first publicly announced in August 2022, when the Uttar Pradesh government—via Mathura-Raman district’s MLA and cabinet minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary—formally introduced the plan. He highlighted that a dedicated corridor would be built “for an easy movement of devotees from the Yamuna riverbank to the famed Bankey Bihari Temple” in Vrindavan, echoing the model of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, and emphasized its capacity to hold over 50,000 devotees at a time .
- In October 2022, this plan was further solidified when the UP government officially informed the Allahabad High Court that it intended to acquire five acres near the temple to develop the corridor, marking its formal legal announcement .

By early January 2023, the surveying of narrow “Kunj Galis” and adjacent lands had begun. Officials aimed to complete this by the weekend, mapping properties to be acquired .
