Timeline of the bankey bihari project

The Bankey Bihari Corridor project was first publicly announced in August 2022, when the Uttar Pradesh government—via Mathura-Raman district’s MLA and cabinet minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary—formally introduced the plan. He highlighted that a dedicated corridor would be built “for an easy movement of devotees from the Yamuna riverbank to the famed Bankey Bihari Temple” in Vrindavan, echoing the model of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, and emphasized its capacity to hold over 50,000 devotees at a time .

Allahabad High Court Directive – Dec 20, 2022

A PIL prompted the Allahabad High Court to “order the district administration to submit a development plan” for a corridor around the Banke Bihari temple  .

An eight-member committee led by Municipal Commissioner Anunaya Jha was set up to     survey the designated 5‑acre site, as mandated by the court  .

By early January 2023, the surveying of narrow “Kunj Galis” and adjacent lands had begun. Officials aimed to complete this by the weekend, mapping properties to be acquired  .

By mid-January, planners—acting on directives from CM Yogi Adityanath—outlined a vision for a grand corridor akin to the Kashi Vishwanath model, blending traditional architecture, green spaces, and modern amenities  .

After protest and tension UP Government announced :

* The rights of Goswami society will be secure.

* After seeing the protest , the government has announced that it will give shop in exchange for shop and house in exchange for house.

(1). Society –

Upgraded roads, parking areas, sanitation facilities, drinking water points, and waiting halls improve the quality of life for both locals and visitors.

Better waste management and traffic flow reduce chaos and pollution in the area.

Revitalization of the temple area promotes Vrindavan’s religious and cultural heritage.

May inspire similar projects in other pilgrimage towns.

This project can be support educational area in multiple dimension like : –

Build a cultural heritage museum or center as part of the corridor to educate visitors and students about:

Lord Krishna’s life and teachings

Vrindavan’s historical and religious significance

Encourage educational tourism and field trips for school students

Better roads and public transport developed under the corridor project make it easier for students from rural areas to access schools and colleges.

Use CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds from corridor-associated companies to:

Provide smart classrooms, projectors, and internet in nearby schools.

Run awareness programs on hygiene, environment, and spirituality

Organize career fairs and workshops for local youth based on new job opportunities in tourism, event management, translation, and religious services.

The project directly provide employment , tourism ( national and international) , support educational area etc. then upcoming generation learn humanity ,

learn equality by knowing different culture because the devotees  comes  from different places in India and as well foreigners.

(2). Economical area –

The Bankey Bihari corridor project directly promote tourism and it support Indian economy by  incoming foreign currency.

Set up training institutes near the corridor for:

Hospitality and tourism management

Temple management and religious studies

Handicrafts and local arts

These centers can offer employment-linked education to local youth.

Challenges and Concerns

  1. Displacement of Locals:

Demolition of shops and houses around the temple for corridor space has raised concerns about loss of livelihood and forced eviction.

Some residents and shopkeepers feel their ancestral rights and businesses are being ignored.

  1. Cultural Authenticity at Risk:

Large-scale construction may affect the traditional look and feel of the temple area.

There’s concern that commercialization may overshadow spiritual atmosphere.

  1. Legal and Environmental Issues:

Ongoing court cases by locals resisting demolition or compensation delays.

Environmentalists raise alarms about the impact on Yamuna river ecosystem and green spaces.
